Creating a Business Plan
As part of the application process to take on one of our pubs, you will be asked to complete a business plan. This is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your business acumen and explain to us what you short and long term plans for the pub are and how you plan to achieve them.
In order to help you with this, we’ve provided you with some handy hints and tips to ensure your business plan as is comprehensive as possible:
The business plan process is two-fold; it’s an opportunity for you to document your ideas and to let us know what skills you will bring to the business, and it is an effective research tool which allows you to assess whether this is right business for you
Ensure you speak to other Marston’s Landlords to find out more about their experiences of running a Marston’s pub
Speak to customers and local residents to gain an understanding of what the community want from their local pub. Is this currently available or do you need to consider different activities or events in your business plan to maximise sales and repeat custom
Visit the pub at different trading times to gauge a true picture of the business. A week day lunch time visit will be very different to a busy Friday or Saturday night.
Visit competitors to assess the strength of the competition. Consider the type of clientele they attract, their pricing structure and the activities on offer
Consider your break-even point; how much money does the site need to take to meet your financial expectations?
Give consideration to how you might integrate yourself into the local community. Building good relationships with your customers will be critical to your success!
