We're looking for a General Manager for a lovely community pub in Hull. Salary up to £40,000 plus bonus and a generous benefits package. 

Marston’s is one of the UK’s largest and most beloved pub chains and today, we operate more than 1,300 pubs, bars and hotels. Now, we’re on the lookout for a great General Manager to take charge at the Three Crowns in Hull and lead the team to success!

About the pub

The Three Crowns is situated on Victoria Dock in Hull.  This is a large residential area just away from the city centre with a decent amount of walk-to trade.  

The pub is a two room operation all served from one central servery.  It has a separate bar area with Sky, TNT sports and a pool table. The dining area is separated from the bar to allow family dining even during big sporting events. 

Outside, the pub has a zoned beer garden with an area with a TV for live sports and another area for quieter relaxation. The pub is at the heart of its local community.  It has a good level of food trade as well as having Sky & TNT sports for local sporting enthusiasts. It has regular live music nights which are well attended and disco nights are a real plus. 

The pub is ideally situated next to small parade of shops in the heart of Victoria Dock.  It has a car park for guest travelling to the area but it is in walking distance of a large number of houses.

The pub benefits from an experienced Head Chef and a strong Assistant Manager, there is also  a supervisor looking to advance to the next level and a Line Chef who will become the Second Chef.  Overall it is a good team who pull together and are well engaged.

The pub has a strong Reputation score and has little competition within walking distance.  There is a real potential to drive this business forward through engagement with the local community and live sports. The team has the ability to operate the pub on a day to day basis so we are looking for a GM with strong marketing and community engagement skills to add an extra dynamic. Genuine enthusiasm and a desire to drive sales through local networking is essential. 

The GM flat at the Three Crowns is situated above the pub. It consists of 3 double bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen and bathroom.

I spent time with a ‘buddy’ manager from a nearby site – he was a great guy and really honest and talked to me about the culture of Marston’s as well as the day to day running of the business.

My Area Manager, Nigel was really supportive and if he didn’t have the answer he would pull on his network of experts to support.

Induction

Opening a new build pub

On the opening day there was so many people coming in but I wasn’t worried as I had every type of support there to help it run smoothly. The whole board came down for a meal at my pub, the CEO and the Managing Director are really nice people and down to earth too!
