About the role

We’re excited to offer an opportunity for an Assistant Building Surveyor on a 2 year FTC to join the Property team at Marston’s, supporting the maintenance, compliance and performance of our extensive pub estate.

This role is ideal for someone at the early stages of their surveying or construction career who is keen to learn quickly in a hands‑on, commercial and people‑focused environment. Working alongside experienced Surveyors, Compliance Specialists, Energy teams and our Maintenance Helpdesk, you’ll gain invaluable exposure to live projects across a national hospitality estate.

With structured on‑the‑job learning, mentoring and real responsibility from day one, this role offers a clear progression pathway towards a Regional Surveyor level.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting the delivery of maintenance and statutory compliance works across the Marston’s estate
  • Working closely with Surveyors, Compliance and Energy teams to scope, instruct and monitor works
  • Managing smaller maintenance projects, liaising with pub operators and contractors
  • Assisting with the collation, tracking and reporting of maintenance and compliance costs
  • Developing a strong understanding of statutory requirements and health & safety obligations
  • Building experience in contractor and contract management
  • Supporting forecasting of costs, programmes and timescales
  • Working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders across the business

About you

  • Background or experience in construction, property or surveying (qualification or time‑served)
  • Strong desire to learn, develop and progress your career
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, operational environment
  • Confident communicator, able to build positive working relationships
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Willing to travel regularly across the Marston’s estate

We have some parking space at our Pub Support Centre (with EV charging points), and access to 4 public car parks within a 5-minute walk which can be claimed back via expenses.

Our Pub Support Centre is a Grade A energy efficient, and award-winning building. The building is powered by our solar panel roof, and we have 10 electric car charging points on site. We’re also committed to full recycling throughout the building.

We have a group bonus scheme for Pub Support Centre (PSC) based on company performance, however depending on your role there may be individual schemes that are applicable.

With a hybrid approach the main core working hours are 9am – 5pm, depending on the team you work in.
