Back of House (BOH) Openings Trainer – CapEx

At Marston’s, great kitchens are at the heart of great pubs. We’re looking for an experienced Back of House Openings Trainer to support our Capital Investment (CapEx) programme, helping kitchen teams deliver outstanding quality, consistency and confidence from opening day and beyond.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a senior hospitality operator with a passion for training and people development to make a real impact across our estate.

The role
As a Back of House Openings Trainer, you’ll design and deliver market‑leading training for General Managers, operators, senior teams and kitchen team members during pub refurbishments, re‑opens and new investments. You’ll deliver training through a blended approach, confidently facilitating across multiple channels and tailoring content to the needs of each pub and team. Working closely with regional CapEx coaches and key stakeholders, you’ll act as a trusted learning partner while role‑modelling Marston’s values and behaviours.

A key part of the role is ensuring training delivers real business impact — supporting food quality, safety, compliance, productivity and return on investment.
This is a field‑based role with extensive travel to CapEx sites.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Delivering all stages of the CapEx Back of House training programme in a clear, engaging and inclusive way.
  • Identifying learning needs at pub, team and individual level and providing tailored support.
  • Designing and continuously evolving innovative training content that reflects best practice, learning trends and business priorities.
  • Taking ownership of L&D communications for assigned pubs, ensuring stakeholders are kept informed.
  • Evaluating training effectiveness using the Kirkpatrick Model (Level 3) and sharing insights and improvement recommendations.
  • Providing hands‑on coaching and post‑opening support for up to 13 weeks after opening.
  • Championing high standards of food safety, cleanliness, preparation and operational discipline.
  •  Consistently role‑modelling Marston’s values and supporting strong FOH/BOH collaboration.

What we’re looking for
Essential:

  • Senior‑level operational kitchen or hospitality experience, with strong commercial awareness.
  • Proven ability to deliver high food quality, safety and operational standards in fast‑paced environments.
  • Experience designing and delivering training across different formats and channels.
  • A natural coach and mentor, confident supporting and influencing others at all levels.
  • Strong working knowledge of pub operational systems and compliance standards.
  • Confidence analysing data and using insight to inform training and operational improvements.
  •  Strong IT skills, including Microsoft platforms, with excellent organisation and time management.

Desirable:
A formal Hospitality or Learning & Development qualification (Level 3 or above), although this is not essential.

What you get from us: You’ll be joining an award-winning local pub company that puts people first, lives by people-led values, and offers real opportunities to advance your career – with genuine benefits that include:

  • Car Allowance
  • Training and induction from our NITA award training team
  • Apprenticeship programmes – offering development at any stage of your career
  • Enhanced Maternity & Paternity leave
  • 30% off in Marston’s pubs and Marston’s Inns accommodation
  • Marston’s Cheers Reward & Recognition Platform (earn points to spend for living and breathing our values and behaviours and access high street retailer discounts)
  • Save as you earn scheme
  • Employee assistance programme, to support your well-being including confidential 24/7 helpline
  • Pension scheme with additional Life Assurance and Group Income Protection cover included
  • Health Screening Discounts
  • Long Service Awards
  • Buy and sell additional leave
  • Gym Discounts
  • 24-hour GP helpline
  • Mortgage Advice and support
  • Healthcare Cash Plan

Come as you are. Personality and passion is important to us. No judgement on where you’ve come from, or your story to date, just a need for the right attitude and an ambition that matches ours. We’ll accept you and celebrate you for being you.
